Pánfilo de Narváez

Pánfilo de Narváez (1470-1528), successor to Ponce de León and conqueror of Florida, went after Hernán Cortés, who had risen in revolt, and ended up being captured and imprisoned by Cortés for 2 years.

Once freed, he traveled from Sanlúcar de Barrameda to Tampa and Florida, and ventured inland in search of riches. He died on the return trip, trying to reach Mexico.
